Klaus dostal evropskou petici proti Lisabonu
Prague - Czech President Vaclav Klaus today received a petition organised by European opponents of the Lisbon treaty and calling on him not to sign the document.
Kent Ekeroth, from the far-right Swedish Democrats, handed the petition with some 20,000 signatures to the Presidential Office.
Klaus is the last president in the European Union who has not yet signed the treaty.
However, an EU summit accepted a Czech opt-out from the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights on Thursday, demanded by Klaus. The Czech president must still wait for the Constitutional Court that will decide whether the EU reform treaty is in accordance with the Czech Constitution. The court is likely to issue its verdict on November 3.
Ekeroth who initiated the petition said mostly people from the Czech Republic and Britain signed it.
The European campaign Support Vaclav Klaus was launched three weeks ago and it is to continue. The organisers say they want to gather 100,000 signatures.
