Klaus calls on Czechs to be stocked with old light bulbs - press

When presenting his latest book the Blue Planet Endangered on Friday, Klaus indirectly called on Czechs to buy the old light bulbs that are to be banned to have them in stock, LN writes.

"If I were an ordinary man who routinely goes to our shopping centres, I would buy a sufficient supply of light bulbs before September 1 before the rest of my, certainly not long life," Klaus said.

Klaus said he wanted to do so out of nostalgia. "I would like to use the old good Edison light bulbs, not joining the modern craze that is emerging around us," Klaus said

LN writes that environmentalists frown upon Klaus's words. Former environment minister Bedrich Moldan said Klaus's light bulb revolt was rather out of place.

"It seems to me absurd. In fact, Klaus hates any regulation with origin in Brussels. I guess the regulation is right," Moldan said.

Starting September 1, importers and manufacturers will not be allowed to deliver the light bulbs with the 100 watt and higher power demand, but traders will be able to sell the rest of their supplies.

Eurosceptic Klaus is also the opponent of the global warming theory with which he takes issue in his latest book.

Klaus claims in it that the debate has been abused by politicians and environmentalists who use what Klaus called a "controversial hypothesis" to justify curtailment of personal freedom and economic growth.
