Most Czechs dissatisfied with current political development-poll

According to the on-line poll conducted by the Centre of Analyses and Empirical Research (SANEP), more than half of respondents have no opinion on Tuesday's position of the Social Democrats (CSSD) that actually decided that early elections planned in November will not take place.

CSSD leader Jiri Paroubek announced on Tuesday that the party would not vote for the dissolution of the Chamber of Deputies at its session and said the CSSD wanted elections to be held on their regular date, in mid-2010.

The CSSD's decision led to the Tuesday session of the Chamber of Deputies at which it planned to vote on its dissolution as a step to the November early elections to close prematurely. No decision on the future course has been made.

SANEP said its poll indirectly showed that most Czechs had been unpleasantly surprised by the current political situation and that they are concerned about it.

These feelings were expressed by 72 percent of respondents while 67 percent of them voiced the view that Fischer's government should remain in office up to the date of regular parliamentary elections next May.

Fifty-six respondents in the poll were unable to answer the question of whether the position of the Social Democrats that made holding the early elections in November impossible was correct.
