Four Czech research projects to get two billion crowns from EU

The money will go to the Technical University in Liberec, the Technical University (VUT) in Brno, the Czech Academy of Sciences' Institute of Scientific Instruments and the Institute of Veterinary Medicine Research.

Another four billion crowns will be divided among further applicants in the foreseeable future, the ministry said.

"We've received 44 applications of which we've chosen the best eight. For the time being, the subsidy has been definitively approved for the first four projects. We will divide further four billion crowns among the remaining ones," Education Minister Miroslava Kopicova said in a press release.

The ministry said the best of all projects seeking the subsidy is the VUT Engineering Faculty's project of a centre of new engineering technologies research. It has gained a subsidy of over 700 million crowns.

Over 300 million crowns go to the Veterinary Medicine Research Institute, also seated in Brno, that specialises in research of animal health protection.

The Technical University in Liberec, north Bohemia, will receive 800 million crowns for building a state-of-the-art centre for nanotechnology research.

The laboratories for the development and application of advanced micro- and nanotechnologies at the Institute of Scientific Instruments will receive over 400 million crowns that plan to construct modern scientific instruments and develop a new diagnostic method in medicine.
