Letos už testy odhalily 128 případů HIV pozitivních v ČR

Prague - Tests have revealed 128 cases of HIV-positive persons in the Czech Republic since January and that total number of those infected has been 1315, Hana Zakoucka, from the State Health Care Institute (SZU), told journalists today.

Last year, 148 people were found HIV-positive, according to SZU data.

AIDS developed from infection with HIV virus in 29 persons.

A total of 152 people have died of AIDS in the 10-million Czech Republic since 1986. The number of Czech AIDS patients has been 284.

Annually several people die of AIDS in the country. This year AIDS has claimed 10 lives.

Most people get infected in sexual intercourse.

Apart from 1315 persons based in the Czech Republic, 322 foreigners who stayed in the country only temporarily have been tested HIV positive since the mid-1980s.

However, the real figure is estimated to be ten times higher.

Though the number of HIV positive cases has been rising in the Czech Republic, state subsidies for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment have been constantly declining for several years, experts complain.
