Prezident NKÚ odmítl kontrolu poslanců

Prague - Czech Supreme Audit Office (NKU) president Frantisek Dohnal has refused to provide documents to a group of deputies from the Chamber of Deputies controlling committee investigating alleged mistakes in the NKU financial management, Libor Jezek (Civic Democrats, ODS), from the group, told CTK today.

Although the parliamentary controlling committee started the inspection of the NKU financial management, Dohnal refused to cooperate with it, pointing out that its activity contradicted to the Czech constitution, Jezek, who is deputy head of the Chamber of Deputies controlling committee, said.

Members of the committee visited the NKU to investigate the allegation of squandering of the office's money by Dohnal.

Earlier this year, a group of members of the NKU board accused Dohnal of violation of law and financial mismanagement at the NKU and informed the Chamber of Deputies controlling committee of their suspicions.

They said the NKU headed by Dohnal repeatedly changed the size of public orders with the aim of pushing their value beneath two million crowns when no tender needs be launched.

They also criticised Dohnal for having had the NKU pay for the rent of two flats he used while he is only entitled to one.

Dohnal said previously he will leave one of the flats.

Dohnal also used three office cars though he was only entitled to two, under the law.

Members of the NKU board also pointed out that Dohnal purchased artifacts worth several million crowns for the NKU's money.

Dohnal also faced the charges of mismanagement of other people's property. However, police announced in August that they had shelved the case.

The Chamber of Deputies empowered the committee with inspecting the NKU financial management in June.

Jezek said today that the controlling committee would now send a letter to Dohnal asking him to provide the controlling group with the documents it needs for the inspection.

According to Jezek, none of the requested documents is classified nor a subject of personal data protection.
