Bém se neobává střetu s Blažkem o post šéfa pražské ODS

Prague - Prague Deputy Mayor Rudolf Blazek will run against Prague Mayor Pavel Bem for the post of the head of the Prague branch of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), Blazek confirmed to today's issue of the daily Hospodarske noviny (HN).

ODS leader Mirek Topolanek, whom Bem failed to oust from the seat of chairman last autumn, did not comment on Blazek's candidacy, the paper writes.

President Vaclav Klaus, ODS founder and long-standing chairman, gave up the post of ODS honorary chairman after Topolanek's re-election to the post. Klaus and Bem are considered allies.

The Prague ODS has been generally viewed as a group of Topolanek's opponents.

Media have speculated for some time that Bem was losing his influence in the Prague ODS branch.

HN writes that Bem has little chance to defend the post of ODS Prague leader.

The paper says another Prague deputy mayor, Pavel Klega, might run for the post, too.
