Topolánek: Dohoda o vládě by mohla být v neděli

Prague - The leaders of the parties of the Czech centre-right coalition government in resignation and the opposition Social Democrats (CSSD) might reach agreement on a new government by Sunday, outgoing Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek (ODS) said today.

Topolanek's government fell last week when the Chamber of Deputies voted no confidence in it.

Topolanek, speaking after today's meeting of the leaders, said they named the fundamental parameters of a solution based on the four-party pattern.

The parameters are the mechanism and date of early elections, the length of his government's rule and the way of transition to a bridging government, Topolanek said.

He said on Sunday the parties will discuss nominations for the post of prime minister of the interim government and its possible lineup.

"I felt a will to reach a conclusion on Sunday," Topolanek said.

CSSD chairman Jiri Paroubek who has insisted on an agreement to be struck by Sunday, would not comment on the negotiations.

Topolanek said the coalition parties, the ODS, the Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) and the Greens (SZ), agreed with the CSSD today that they are capable of reaching an agreement.

Topolanek said the agreement in preparation is yet to be discussed by party bodies.

The CSSD presidium is meeting today, the party leaderships of the coalition parties plan to meet on Monday.

"Then, the solution could be on the table and it could introduce peace and stability to the Czech Republic," Topolanek said.

He said the parameters of the emerging agreement "do not dramatically differ" from what was agreed on one week ago.

The parties agreed then that early general elections would most probably be held on October 16-17.
