Prague - Czech police have detained ten people suspected of growing and distributing marijuana, seizing 59 kilograms of the drug worth 5.1 million crowns and uncovering three growing facilities, police representatives said today.

Some of the detained face prosecution abroad because they were taking the drug to Germany and Hungary, the police said.

Seven Vietnamese were detained in the Czech Republic from November 27 to December 1. Four of them are denoted as managers and they face up to 15 years in prison.

The remaining three were "gardeners." They face up to ten years in prison.

All of them have been taken into custody. They are prosecuted on suspicion of unauthorised drug possession.

The police also uncovered another 15 kilograms of drug in a Prague storage facility and uncovered three growing facilities in the country.

The police detained a Czech courier with 29 kilograms of marijuana at the Selb border crossing with Germany on October 7. He is prosecuted in Germany and faces up to ten years in prison.

On November 9, the police detained in Bratislava a Hungarian man with 15 kilograms of the drug. He will be prosecuted in Slovakia where he faces up to 25 years in prison.

The German police detained on November 17 a Vietnamese whom they suspect of organising two marijuana large-scale growing facilities. He faces up to ten years in prison.

The two large-scale growing facilities uncovered in Germany had a capacity of 2000 cannabis plants.

The police seized 3000 plants in the Czech three growing facilities. They also found three complete technologies for cannabis growing worth three million crowns.

The perpetrators were selling the drug in Germany for an equivalent of 105,600 crowns per kilogram and in Hungary for an equivalent of 70,000 crowns per kilogram.

Czech National Drug Centre director Jakub Frydrych said the police have uncovered 65 growing facilites with 25,000 plants of cannabis since the beginning of the year.

They detained 95 perpetrators, Frydrych said, adding that 61 percent of them were of Vietnamese origin.

He said the raid codenamed BAO has been the largest this year because tops of the criminal grouping have been among the detained.
