Stejné značky mají i modely Rapid, informovala 3. ledna ČTK automobilka v tiskové zprávě.

The market share of the largest Czech car maker Skoda Auto, however, declined by 0.57 percent to 30.33 percent.

Hyundai came next with 16,239 registrations of new passenger cars, 7 percent more in annual terms. The market share of the South Korean car maker grew by an annual rate of 1.14 percent to 9.86 percent.

Volkswagen was the third top-selling brand. Its registrations fell by 1.6 percent on the year to 14,948. The share of the market for new passenger cars reached 9.07 percent.

Skodas remain the most popular brand in the country accounting for 34.6 percent of passenger vehicles at the end of last year.

Ford comes next, followed by Volkswagen, Renault and Peugeot.

The amount of passenger car registrations grew by 89,000 to 4.8 million last year. The average age of the car fleet rose from 13.9 to 14.2 years.

As many as 290,851 cars had their first registrations last year, of this 164,736 new and 126,115 imported used cars.

The association´s director Antonin Sipek said the annual rate of renewal the Czech car fleet renewal by new passenger cars is one of the lowest in Europe in the long run.

Last year´s saw a drop to 3.5 percent in this respect, while in advanced Europe the rate is between 6 and 10 percent.

The structure of used passenger car imports is deteriorating too, said Sipek. The share of imported used cars above 10 years was around 30 percent back in 2007, last year it was more than 38 percent and in January this year it was 41 percent.

The low renewal rate and the relatively high imports of used cars that are too old are raising the average age of Czech cars which currently exceeds 14 years, said Sipek.

New car sales posted a rise of 13 percent to 13,638 units in January of the year, the best January result in ten years.
