Prague - Car maker Skoda Auto has won the Czech Exporter of the Year contest again, ahead of companies Foxconn and Panasonic AVC which also occupied the same positions as in the contest's previous round, according to results of the contest CTK has obtained from its organisers.
The awards were presented to representatives of the companies by President Milos Zeman at a ceremony this evening.
Skoda Auto also won the category measuring the volume of export in 1993 to 2012.
The winner in the category of the growth of export in 1993 to 2012 was tyres producer Mitas. An award for the biggest growth of export in 2011 to 2012 was given to company Ostroj.
Outgoing Prime Minister Jiri Rusnok estimates that the Czech Republic's foreign trade surplus will reach Kc320bn to Kc340bn this year.
"Exporters are the pride of our economy," Rusnok said.
Zeman said today Czech embassies and ambassadors should better cooperate.
"Czech ambassadors must realise that economic diplomacy is primarily a national interest, not dealing with disputes between Palestine and Israel, or Taiwan and continental China. We need that our ambassadors are qualified and know their territory at the moment they set foot on it," Zeman said.
He also stressed the importance of work of honorary consuls.
For the first time ever, awards were also given in the category of "the best export transaction supported by the state" as part of the Exporter of the Year contest this year.
The winners in this category were companies Pegas Nonwovens, Skoda JS and Ferrit.
Pegas scored victory with an export transaction whose total volume reached almost Kc1.7bn. The company's project involving the construction of a plant producing nonwoven fabrics in Egypt was insured by state-run Export Guarantee and Insurance Company (EGAP).
Pegas Nonwovens produces nonwoven fabrics from polyethylene and polypropylene that are used in hygiene products, and in industry and construction, for example.
The Exporter of the Year contest has several categories every year.
All exporting companies that are based in the Czech Republic and whose annual export turnover exceeds Kc100m could take part in the contest.
Organisers of the contest are associations Stredni podnikatelsky stav and Asociace na podporu podnikani CR. The contest was held under the auspices of the Economic Chamber.
