Quarter of Czechs consider political parties corrupted - TI

The highest share of Czechs (40 percent) consider civil servants and public representatives the most corrupted.

In the world, seven in ten people or 68 percent on average consider political parties corrupted, shows the poll in which over 73,000 people from 69 countries, including 1000 Czechs, participated.

The TI Czech branch found out that 11 percent of Czechs admit they themselves or someone from their family were asked to give a bribe in the past year.

It is alarming that almost 95 percent of these respondents did not take any steps in such a case, Czech TI said.

On average 13 percent of people said they or their family members gave a bribe in the past 12 months.

The lowest share (1 percent) was in Denmark, Israel and the Netherlands. On the contrary, the highest corruption level was in North African and Middle East countries.

Bribes in the Czech Republic were most often given to civil servants for the registration or issuance of various permits, in health care and to the police.

The TI poll is focused on the citizens' perception of corruption in particular countries.
