Prague - Palestinian ambassador to the Czech Republic Jamal Al Jamal, who was injured in an explosion in his residence in Prague-Suchdol today, has died in hospital, Prague Police Andrea Zoulova told CTK.

Bomb-disposal experts are searching a neighbouring house that is also owned by the Palestinian embassy and Police President is on his way to the site.

A 52-year-old woman was treated on the spot and then taken to the Prague-Motol Hospital on suspicion she inhaled by-product gases and over a stress reaction.

Hospital spokeswoman Pavlina Dankova told CTK that the woman was not injured and that she was released after examination.

Dankova would not say whether the woman was the ambassador´s wife.

The injured ambassador officially assumed the post on October 11, 2013, when he handed his credentials to President Milos Zeman.

Nabil El Fahel, from the embassy´s press department, told the public radio that the ambassador´s whole family was in the flat at the time of the explosion.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation. The original information about an explosive system has not been confirmed.

Knowledgeable sources told server Novinky.cz that the explosion was probably caused by incautious manipulation of dangers pyrotechnics or an explosive.

The building, in which the blast occurred, is a new one and it has not yet been approved, Suchdol mayor Petr Hejl said.

The ambassador moved to the residence which is to be a new seat of the Palestinian embassy a couple of days ago.

The new building is being searched by bomb-disposal experts with a specially trained dog.

Not even investigators have been allowed in the building.

"That is why it is early to speak about the causes or details of the detonation," police spokeswoman Andrea Zoulova said.

"We have several versions, but none of them can as yet been ruled out," she told CTK.
