Jerusalem - The condition for moving embassies from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is the completion of the Middle East peace process and building of a diplomatic residential quarter, Czech President Milos Zeman told journalists today.
Zeman recently came out in favour of moving the Czech embassy to Jerusalem, which aroused the Palestinian Authority´s criticism.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) joined the criticism today.
"The condition for moving our embassy is not only the completion of the peace process, but also the construction of a residential quarter in Jerusalem for the future embassies," Zeman said after a visit to the Holocaust victims´ memorial Yad Vashem.
In the memorial he paid tribute to Israel´s founder Theodor Herzl.
Zeman said he would wish the city´s councillors to choose a really good architects so that "this quarter do not resemble the Brussels-European architecture."
He said he recently read a statement by former Israeli prime minister and former Jerusalem mayor Ehud Olmert who said the city would not have sufficient space for moving diplomatic offices.
Zeman said Olmert said this would be a disaster for Jerusalem.
OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said today Zeman´s proposal is dangerous and that it violates international law and undermines the Palestinian people´s inalienable rights.
Ihsanoglu has been informed about the matter by Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki, an OIC statement said.
Zeman, who left for a visit of several days to Israel on Sunday, spoke about moving the embassy when launching the traditional Days for Israel in Hradec Kralove, east Bohemia, on September 30.
Several days later he was criticised by Saeb Erekat, Organisation for the Liberation of Palestina executive committee member, who sent a personal letter to Zeman dated October 5.
Zeman met his Israeli counterpart Shimon Peres today. He stressed the need to fight international terrorism.
Later he met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and said he has been a friend of Israel.
