Mel Gibson receives Crystal Globe at Czech Karlovy Vary festival

Karlovy Vary - Oscar-winning actor Gibson was awarded with the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema at the opening ceremony of the 49th Czech Karlovy Vary International Film Festival today.

Hollywoodský herec, režisér a producent Mel Gibson (vlevo) převzal 4. července při slavnostním zahájení 49. ročníku Mezinárodního filmového festivalu Karlovy Vary z rukou prezidenta festivalu Jiřího Bartošky Křišťálový globus za mimořádný umělecký přínos světové kinematografii. Before festival director Jiri Bartoska passed the award to Gibson, he and other guests were shown excerpts from Gibson's creation.

Gibson, who was born in the USA and moved to Australia when he was 12, won two Oscar Academy Awards for Braveheart (1995), directed and produced by and starring him, a Golden Globe and about 30 other film awards.

The guests at the ceremony included Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek and Culture Minister Daniel Herman.

At the opening ceremony, members of the jury were introduced. It is headed by Spanish film-maker Luis Minarro.
