Chrastava - A man put a plastic pistol to President Vaclav Klaus´ side and repeatedly squeezed the trigger without wounding him at a bridge opening ceremony in Chrastava today.
The police arrested the man.
Klaus would not comment on the incident. He only said people are crazy. He stayed at the ceremony and continued talking to people, including local politicians.
The incident occurred shortly before 15:00 following the reconstructed art nouveau bridge´s reopening in Klaus presence, when Klaus was surrounded by the crowd.
Not even those standing close to him could register what was exactly happening.
"I was standing next to the president when a man applied a pistol to his side and squeezed the trigger several times. I could hear a few clicks. In the first moment I did not know at all what was happening," Chrastava Mayor Michael Canov told CTK.
The man then attempted to disappear in the crowd but the president´s bodyguards detained him and handed over to the police.
The man, aged 26, is being interrogated now.
According to witnesses, he was wearing a plastic gun that is used in the airsoft game and that shoots plastic pellets.
