Prague - No change has been made in the programme of Czech President Vaclav Klaus for the next days over the recent incident when a young man shoot plastic pellets from an airsoft gun at Klaus, the president´s spokesman Radim Ochvat told CTK today.
The official programme available on Klaus´s website shows that Klaus did not originally plan to attend any public event, however.
The first occasion on which he may participate in an event outside the Prague Castle, the presidential seat, will be a trip to the Lidice Memorial, commemorating a Czech village raised to the ground by the Nazis in 1942, that Klaus will probably make along with German President Joachim Gauck on October 10.
Next Monday, Klaus will meet former U.S. Vice-President Richard Cheney and John Ashcroft who was U.S. attorney general in the administration of George W. Bush. Cheney and Ashcroft will attend the U.S. and EU Days conference in Prague.
Next Wednesday, Klaus will meet Gauck who will pay an official visit to the country.
The young shooter who attacked Klaus said he used the toy gun in protest against the political situation in the country. He was accused of breach of peace.
Klaus suffered a light hand injury. The mock shooting took place during a bridge opening attended by a number of people. Klaus did no leave the event after the incident and he talked to the citizens and local politicians.
On Monday Klaus said he considers the attack and assassination attempt and a serious event pointing to a bad situation in society.
Klaus´s bodyguards have been suspected of breaching their duty. They let the young man leave after shooting at Klaus from a close distance and detained him near the spot of the shooting only after he gave an interview to media.
New rules for the work of the presidential guards are to be introduced due to the shooting.
Klaus´s secretary Ladislav Jakl told today´s issue of Pravo daily that he can hardly imagine Klaus getting scared and changing his programme.
