Brno - Ghettofest, a street festival in a poor neighbourhood inhabited mostly by Romany families in one of the central districts of the city of Brno, is organised this weekend for the third time, organiser Alice Herakova said.
Hlavním dnem pokračoval 7. června v takzvaném brněnském Bronx, který je domovem mnoha sociálně slabých lidí, festival Ghettofest. Z původně jednodenního hudebního festivalu vznikla víkendová akce s desítkami programových položek včetně divadelních a tanečních představení, diskusí, projekcí a setkání ve veřejném prostoru. Several hundred people took part in the event that offered dance and theatre performances, music, discussions, film screenings and meetings.
Herakova said more people who do not live in the neighbourhood arrived this year, which was in fact one of the aims of the festival.
As the weather was very hot, an improvised cafe was set up in the Bratislavska street near the Museum of Romani Culture.
Herakova said the main aim of the festival is to show that the public space that is not used and has a reputation of a rather dangerous location can be friendly.
Part of the programme was created and performed by local Romanies: an exhibition of children´s photographs and a children´s theatre performance could be seen and a group of singing mothers had a concert.
A street basketball tournament is taking place today.
