Prague - Petr Gazdik (TOP 09 and Mayors) was elected the fourth deputy chairperson of the Czech Chamber of Deputies as the only candidate in a secret ballot today.
Tomio Okamura, leader of the populist Dawn of Direct Democracy, gave up his nomination shortly before the election.
Gazdik obtained 98 out of the 163 cast votes, chairman of the election commission Martin Kolovratnik (ANO) said.
Gazdik will join Jaroslava Jermanova (ANO), Pavel Belobradek (Christian Democrats, KDU-CSL) and Vojtech Filip (Communists, KSCM), elected in November.
Gazdik thanked for the confidence in him and told the deputies who had not voted for him that he would try to be the representative of a different politics than that spoken about by Okamura when he gave up his candidature.
Okamura spoke about tasteless compromises that had made from politics a craft without honour.
This was the third election. A week ago, Gazdik and Okamura were rejected and two weeks ago Okamura and his former rival, head of TOP 09 deputies Miroslav Kalousek.
