FBI to train Czech police in fighting corruption, cyber crime

New York/Washington - The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will train the Czech police in fighting corruption and cyber crime, Czech Deputy Interior Minister Jaroslav Hruska told CTK after his talks at the FBI headquarters in Washington today.

The dates of the training will be agreed on by the end of the year, Hruska said.

"The are ready to tell us their experience and their methods of how to work best and how to best prosecute such criminal activity," Hruska said.

"The FBI has enormous experience on public corruption in the United States and there is a lot we can learn from them," he added.

Hruska is on a working visit to the United States.

The current Czech government of Petr Necas made anti-corruption struggle one of the priorities of its policy statement. But according to international anti-corruption watchdogs, Necas´s government has not made marked progress in fighting corruption and the corruption is still widespread in Czech Republic.

According to the 2011 report by Transparency International (TI), out of the over 180 evaluated countries, the Czech Republic dropped from 53rd place last year to 57th. Within 30 European countries, the Czech Republic is in 24th position.

Last year, U.S. ambassador to Prague Norman Eisen offered help in fighting corruption to the Czech Republic.
