V ČR je sedm potvrzených úmrtí na prasečí chřipku

Prague/Plzen - Seven persons have died of swine flu in the Czech Republic so far, with chief sanitary officer Michael Vit announcing six cases today and the Plzen Teaching Hospital confirming a seventh case.

In one of the above cases, leukaemia was the primary cause of death.

The patient who died of swine flu in the Plzen Teaching Hospital, was a middle-aged man treated with serious pneumonia for a week. When tested for H1N1 virus during his illness, no infection was proved. However, after his death swine flu has proved to be the cause of his death, the hospital's spokeswoman Renata Jensikova said.

The man died a few days ago, but the tests made after his death were completed this morning.

In three of the 14 Czech regions a swine flu epidemic has already started, which means that the number of people suffering from respiratory diseases exceeded 2000 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Vit said in these regions people who get the flu do not have to visit a doctor sooner than on the fifth day of their illness.

The vaccination against swine flu has begun this week. Along with the vaccine, Tamiflu anti-viral medicine is being distributed for the treatment of patients with a more severe course of swine flu. The vaccination is voluntary for selected patients.
