Korupce v ČR bují díky politikům a justici
Prague - The Czech Republic's worsening position on the international comparison of corruption is caused by political corruption, dubious funding of election campaigns, growing influence of financial groups and bad situation in the judiciary, David Ondracka, head of the Czech Transparency International (TIC), told journalists.
In the latest annual assessment of 180 countries, the Czech Republic fell from the 45th to the 52nd place this year, lagging behind all Western countries as well as its neighbours except Slovakia.
"There is virtually no anti-corruption government strategy. It is only paid a lip service," Ondracka said.
"The previous government only considered the sphere its priority in a verbal fashion, opening the road to private interests to influence political decisions," Ondracka said.
"The current government is hesitating whether to do anything and what should it be," Ondracka said, adding that he saw it as a problem that the current interim government of Prime Minister Jan Fischer did not bear any political responsibility for its steps.
The Czech Republic was given the 4.9 mark on the 0-10 scale. Its TI rating has been falling for a number of years.
