Tlustý a Schwippel se chystají na Konvent Libertas

Prague - Czech rebel MP Vlastimil Tlusty, who was expelled from the Civic Democrat Party (ODS) will take part in the Rome Convention, a meeting of candidates running in the European Parliament elections for the Libertas movement of Declan Ganley, to be held on May 1, Tlusty told CTK today.

Tlusty said he and Jan Schwippel, another MP who was expelled from the ODS and runs for Libertas.cz, met Ganley, a known Irish opponent of the Lisbon treaty, near Prague Castle on Friday and discussed the strategy for the forthcoming EP elections due on June 5-6.

Tlusty and Schwippel voted against the government of Mirek Topolanek (ODS) in a no-confidence vote a month ago. The government lost the vote, initiated by the leftist opposition during the six-month Czech EU presidency.

On May 8, President Vaclav Klaus will appoint a caretaker cabinet that is to lead the country towards autumn early elections.

The Czech branch of Libertas, founded by MEP Vladimir Zelezny, will present its website in the next days, Schwippel told CTK.

Tlusty is the election leader of Libertas.cz.

Zelezny said previously he believes to win at least 22 percent of the vote. However, the latest STEM opinion poll showed that only 1 percent of Czechs plans to vote for Libertas.cz. in the EP elections.
