ÚOOÚ: Evidence uživatelů léků s pseudoefedrinem je nezákonná
Prague - Martin Benes, director of the Czech State Institute for Drug Control (SUKL), says on the Internet that SUKL fully respects the Personal Data Protection Office's (UOOU) ruling that the registry of pseudoephedrine-containing medicines users that SUKL creates is unlawful.
The UOOU said the whole central database that SUKL creates on the basis of used paper prescriptions is also unlawful.
"We have immediately started implementing remedial measures," Benes said.
He added electronic prescriptions without the insured people's numbers will continue to be stored.
Czech pharmacies can only hand out without a prescription limited quantities of medicines with pseudoephedrine that are sufficient to treat cold.
When handing out the medicines, the pharmacists registered the identity numbers of the insured persons, or foreigners' date of birth, first name and surname, and checked the patients' identity.
They entered the issue of medicines in a central registry of electronic prescriptions in which they also checked whether the patient may have exceeded the limit set.
Control of the quantity of medicines bought is aimed to prevent drug-addicts from abusing substances with pseudoephedrine in the production of pervitine (methaamphetamine).
Pharmacists, however, challenged in the past the extent of data that they will have to collect on patients.
