Prague - Czech population increased by about 6800 over the first six months of the year to 10,512,208 due to immigration, the Czech Statistical Office (CSU) said today.
From January to June 2012, 53,313 babies were born and 54,589 persons died. As a result, the natural population growth was negative.
Compared to the same period last year, the birth rate decreased and the death rate went up.
The birth rate has been falling the Czech Republic for a long time.
According to the Interior Ministry, the country received 8039 new immigrants from January to the end of June. In the first half of 2011 this number was 9400, however.
