Brussels - Czech Defence Minister Alexandr Vondra will talk about possible continued use of 14 leased Jas-39 Gripen fighter planes after 2015 with his Swedish counterpart Sten Tolgfors on Friday, Vondra told journalists through his spokesman today.

Under the contract from 2004, the lease of the aircraft for 19.6 billion crowns expires in 2015.

The Czech government decided on Wednesday to retain supersonic planes in the future as well.

"The government has assigned me to talk to the Swedes. There is no reason to wait, that is why we have agreed with the Swedish Defence Ministry to hold the first negotiations tomorrow (Friday)," Vondra´s spokesman quoted from his statement.

Vondra and Tolgfors are attending a two-day meeting of the defence ministers of the NATO member countries and the states participating in the military mission in Afghanistan.

Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas said on Wednesday, however, the government will make the definitive decision on how to secure fighter planes for Czech military pilots only after the economic situation improves.
