Soud odsoudil Maksudova za vraždu Bělorusa na 13,5 let

Prague - The Prague City Court today sentenced Uzbek citizen Shakhzod Maksudov to 13.5 years in prison for having murdered a Belorussian and expelled him from the Czech Republic indefinitely.

Parts of the victim's body were found in various places in Prague last year.

The verdict has not taken effect yet as it can be appealed.

Maksudov arrived in the Czech Republic in 2007.

According to the charges, he murdered a Belorussian man in a dormitory in Prague's Hostivar last August.

He smashed his head with a heavy tool and then cut the body into several pieces. He allegedly murdered the Belarussian to rob him.

The police uncovered the victim's mobile phone and other electronic devices on the suspect.

The murdered Belarussian was staying in the Czech Republic legally. He was running a stand with electronic gadgets and applied for political asylum in the country.

He was reported missing last August. A couple of days later, his right arm was found in the garbage and then a police patrol found his feet. The victim's head in a plastic bag was found this March.

Experts say the body was cut into pieces four to five days after the murder.

Maksudov denies the charges. He claims he was in the foreigner police's office at the time of the crime and that he gave his keys to an acquaintance who probably committed the murder.

However, the court did not accept his defence and found him guilty of a murder with robbery.
