Prague - The Social Democrats (CSSD) would win one third of the vote and they remain the clearly most popular Czech party, an opinion poll by Median agency showed today, two months ahead of the early general election scheduled for October 25-26.
The Communists (KSCM) and the right-wing TOP 09 received 15.5 percent and 15 percent, respectively. The Civic Democrats (ODS) won 13.5 percent.
The only other party succeeding in crossing the 5-percent threshold is the Party of Citizens´ Rights - the Zemanites (SPOZ).
The turnout would be 63 percent, the poll indicated.
It showed that those who had voted for the left wing in the latest general election in 2010 were now more likely to take part in the elections than the right-wing voters. One fifth of the left-wing voters and one third of the right-wing voters said they do not plan to cast their votes now.
The poll was conducted from late July to mid-August.
The pollsters said the popularity of the ODS might further drop after the parliamentary vote of confidence in Jiri Rusnok´s interim government, in which two ODS lawmakers violated an agreement of the three parties forming the former centre-right government.
They did not take part in the vote while all other lawmakers for the former government voted against the confidence motion.
Due to this, the centre-right bloc failed to demonstrate that it commands a majority in the lower house of parliament. This failure led to the early elections as it made TOP 09 support the left wing´s proposal for the house´s dissolution.
