Prague - The government coalition has agreed that the Social Democrats (CSSD) and Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) will recommend their people to join the team of candidate for Czech EU commissioner Vera Jourova (ANO) and she will consider the nominations, she told CTK today.
The coalition partners, the CSSD and KDU-CSL, demanded a few things for their support to ANO´s candidate, Local Development Minister Jourova.
Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (CSSD chairman) said on Monday the CSSD had given up the nomination of former finance minister Pavel Mertlik for EU commissioner in exchange for an increase in social services' funding and a higher rise in the minimum wage.
In addition, the CSSD and KDU-CSL would like to nominate their representatives to Jourova´s team.
"I have been receiving tips on people who have been working in Brussels," for instance, from state secretary for European affairs Tomas Prouza, Jourova said in an interview with CTK.
She added that she should get proposals from the coalition partners by Monday, according to the agreement.
Asked whether she must choose some of these nominees, she said this was not an explicit condition.
"However, we have agreed that I will take their candidates into consideration," she admitted.
Speculations emerged in the media recently saying the CSSD might support Jourova´s candidature for EU commissioner in exchange for filling the new post of the civil service director general.
No such personnel demands have been made at the coalition meeting, Jourova said.
The government coalition agreed on Monday that Jourova would be its candidate for EU commissioner.
The Chamber of Deputies committee for European affairs will debate her nomination on Wednesday. The cabinet should officially confirm it on Thursday and send it to Brussels.
