Prague - The deficit of the state budget for 2014 may reach up to 112 billion crowns, Czech outgoing Finance Minister Jan Fischer told the public broadcaster Czech Television (CT) today.
At first, the Jiri Rusnok caretaker government reckoned with the deficit of 110 billion crowns.
"The figure (110 billion crowns) may not be final. For me, the only final figure, the mantra, is 3 percent of GDP, which must not be crossed," Fischer said, adding that such a limit was beyond 113 billion crowns. "112 billion can be narrowly under the limit," Fischer said.
Fischer said the government believed that the economic development next year could be better than the expected 0.8 percent growth.
"We work with the 1.3 percent rate," Fischer said, adding that due to tax revenues it meant four to five billion crowns more.
Fischer said in the draft budget, the government reckoned with the increase in the payment for state policyholders of 3.7 billion crowns. "This does not mean the 5.7 billion demanded by Health Minister Martin Holcat," Ficher said.
The proposal also presumes an increase in the salaries in the civil service, including the police. At present, the growth is envisaged to be 1, 1.5 or 2 percent, Fischer said, adding that he himself preferred 1.5-2 percent.
Fischer said in the Transport Ministry chapter, some 1.7 billion crowns could be spent on the transport operational programme.
The government is yet to discuss the draft budget that will be also on the agenda of the tripartite, associating the representatives of employers, employees and the government, on September 20.
The government must send the budget bill to the Chamber of Deputies by the end of September.
The budget can be still considerably modified by the Chamber of Deputies and the government to arise from the 25-26 October early election.
The new lower house of the Czech parliament is to debate the bill on November 26 at the earliest when its first session after the early election will be held.
