British director Greenaway receives Czech film clubs´ prize

Uherske Hradiste - British director Peter Greenaway was presented with an annual prize of the Association of Czech Film Clubs (ACFK) at the opening of the Summer Film School (LFS) today.

The festival will run until August 2 and offer almost 300 films. Some 5,000 visitors are expected to arrive.

The trophy Greenaway, 72, received has teh form of a 32-centimetre china cornet filled with ice cream.

He said he has received various prizes, including a Golden Mouse, and that he would call this one Golden Ice Cream.

He visited the LFS in 1993 already.

After he took over the prize, Greenaway presented his latest film Goltzius and the Pelican Company. On Sunday he will open an exhibition of his drawings to the prepared film Eisenstein in Guanajuato.

Besdies Greenaway, the festival will also decorate French director Bertrand Tavernier.

The FFS is held for the 44th time. It is the biggest non-competition film festival in the country, aimed at film club members and film fans. It is held by the ACFK.
