Prague - Czech billionaire Andrej Babis will lead the list of candidates of his ANO 2011 movement in Prague in the end-October early general elections, he told journalists today.
The regional lists of candidates will be headed by Martin Komarek, former Mlada fronta Dnes commentator, former local development deputy minister Vera Jourova, former Nova TV sports announcer Vaclav Tittelbach, actor and former diplomat Martin Stropnicky and others.
Babis will compete in Prague with TOP 09 Karel Schwarzenberg, former Chamber of Deputies chairwoman Miroslava Nemcova (Civic Democrats, ODS), union leader Jaroslav Zavadil (for the Social Democrats, CSSD), Daniel Herman, former head of the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes (USTR, for the Christian Democrats, KDU-CSL), Greens chairman Ondrej Liska and Communist Marta Semelova.
On Monday ANO will start its tour of regions. If the movement succeeded in the elections, it would not cooperate with the left. It places itself to right of the centre.
Babis is owner of the Agrofert agricultural-chemical giant Agrofert and recently he bought the leading Czech media group Mafra. Forbes has estimated his property at 40 billion crowns.
Babis founded the ANO movement in 2011. It failed in the Senate elections last autumn.
